Advancing the fight against impunity
-
No, we do not conduct our own investigations. Instead, we evaluate documentation already obtained by CSOs through a prosecutorial lens to help determine how they can best support national authorities’ criminal investigations.
-
Yes. CSOs interested in guidance on best practices and prioritization either before conducting an investigation of an atrocity crime, or early in their documentation collection process, are welcome to contact Evidence Linked.
-
Yes, and we hope you do. Evidence Linked’s mission is to improve the connections between CSOs and national authorities. Prosecutors and law enforcement officials are encouraged to contact us for suggestions on any potential leads to assist in open or potential human rights criminal investigations.
With CSOs permission, Evidence Linked will connect the CSO and national authorities and continue to support lead development.
-
No. Although we will help CSOs develop and organize its documentation through a prosecutorial lens, Evidence Linked will only approach national authorities with leads and evidence packages that it objectively believes can lead to a successful criminal investigation.
If Evidence Linked believes the current evidence is prosecution ready, it will happily contact relevant national authorities to share the information. However, if Evidence Linked believes more development is needed, it will inform the CSOs of that and provide them with advice on how to advance their investigative goals.
-
No. At Evidence Linked, we recognize every actor in the human rights accountability process has its lane and area of expertise. Only qualified attorneys in each jurisdiction have the legal expertise and experience to provide advice on their country’s statutes.
Instead, Evidence Linked uses its years of prosecutorial experience bringing successful criminal charges for atrocity crimes to help CSOs identify the potential value and impact their documentation could have in support law enforcement and prosecutors who pursue criminal investigations of human rights abusers.
-
That is the ultimate goal! As a start-up initiative, we are currently seeking funding with our host organization Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) to support our work with CSOs. Until the initiative is sufficiently funded, we offer free consultations where we provide advice and initial recommendations regarding the CSOs documentation collection efforts to date and offer options for continued engagement.
